Discover the Benefits of Using Whole House Water Filter

Where the tap water we use does come from for our household needs?

Mostly from two natural resources: surface water, such as ponds, lakes, rivers, creeks and streams, and ground water that is extracted by means of a well. But regardless of the original source tap water unfortunately is not at all safe to drink.

It contains numerous impurities that can be harmful to your health.

Heavy metals, such as cooper, iron, lead, fluoride, radon can occur naturally. Some substances can contaminate ground water leaching through the soil or from the plumbing pipes. Among those very dangerous contaminants are fertilizers, asbestos, cyanides, pesticides and numerous industrial chemicals. To kill bacteria and to adjust PH some substances, such as chlorine, carbon, lime, soda ash, phosphates and aluminum sulfate are added intentionally.

But even with these actions taken the water still could be contaminated with viruses, bacteria and parasites.

One of the America’s leading authorities on water contamination, Dr. David Ozonoff of the Boston University School of Public Health states, “The risk of disease associated with public drinking water has passed from the theoretical to real”.

There is only one possible way of removing all undesirable substances right at the “point of entry”. It is to use one of the best filters offered on the market – the whole house water filter.

Only whole house water filter can remove contaminants that potentially hazardous to your health along with hundreds chemicals that can cause “rotten-egg” smell of the water.

Whole house water filter can remove bad smell and taste of the water that comes from a lake or reservoir and is polluted by algae.

The biggest problem of the tap water we use in our household is huge amount of chlorine that is intentionally added in public water supplies to kill bacteria, adjust PH and eliminate cloudiness.

Chlorine is incredibly harmful for your skin and hair, because it kills cells and attacks the oil that retains moisture.

Washing clothes in chlorinated water fades color and is damaging to fabric.

But most hazardous is chlorinated gas that evaporates from hot water when you take a shower. This gas is one of the most common sources of indoor air pollution in many households.

Studies show that most American homes have higher level of chloroform gas caused by chlorine evaporation from treated water. Chlorine gas is released into the air every time you shower, bathe, flush the toilet or wash your clothes with chlorinated water.

This is very dangerous for kids, asthma suffers and people with weak immune system.

Only whole house water filter can give you chlorine free water in tap, bath and shower. Chlorine free showers will leave your skin softer, and more hydrated thus younger-looking and suppler. Your hair will be silky smooth and hair color will last longer.

Fresh and clean laundry free of chlorine will not ruin your clothes.

You will have better tasting water at every tap in your house. Using whole house water filter will guarantees that the air in your home will be much cleaner and healthier.

Using whole house water filter will prevent your major appliances from rust, caused by iron present in the unfiltered water. Iron can also stain fixtures, such as sinks, showers, toilets etc. In the iron rich water certain bacteria that thrive in hot water heaters produces hydrogen sulfide the source of “rotten-egg” smell.

So, it is imperative to clean and purify water, used in your household by the means of whole house water filter.

Algae Magnet
How Do I Get The Algae Off the Decorations in my tank?

I have two Shubunkin goldfish and I keep the tank very clean but kind of hard to keep the little decorations clean. Like the little marble rocks, plastic plants, gravel, and even the magnet that cleans the tank glass. I usually just rinse them off but I’ve began to notice that when I rinse them off the algae gets up there even faster versus not cleaning it at all. So what should I do to clean them

Do you have algae eaters in your tank? Usually if you do they will eat the algae off of your decorations. You could always wash it off but then it takes away all the good bacteria that is needed to be in the tank so i wouldn’t do that.

Are You An Algae Renewable Energy First Timer?

The interest in algae farming also includes implementing Carbon Capture, Biofuel Production, Power Generation, and other industrial flue gasses for use in Photo bioreactors for algae cultivation. Micro Algae can be Genetically Modified to have a high sugar and starch content or high Lipid Oil content. This sugar and starch can be extracted and utilized as feedstock for Biofuel production. The Lipids oil can be extracted with current pressing processes and transesterfied into Biodiesel, Biomass Diesel and BioJet Fuel. Adding an Algae Farm to a facility that has a source of CO2 can be very lucrative.

Over the last two years, our website has received more than 20,000 requests for algae renewable energy information from more than 50 countries. Many of those who contact us have never been involved with a renewable energy project. Most rely on traditional commercial energy providers, but would be first timers in algae green energy project ownership. Some who contact us are familiar with algae farming projects but are concerned over their ability to undertake a financial obligation totaling millions of dollars. If you are a first timer in renewable energy project ownership, we recommend you review our entire website but will summarize here a few of the most common inquiries raised by first timers.

The Algae Photo Bioreactor System is our latest Clean Renewable Energy Innovation

Why the interest in algae? Algae based energy is “The Ultimate Upgrade.”An endless clean Renewable Energy Resource with the largest potential to get us off the foreign oil supply. National Energy Security is an achievable goal with Algae Oil. Environmental Enhancement through Zero Sulfur and the sequestration of CO2 is possible with algae farming. Cap and trade Economics & Job Creation through keeping the production of fuels inside the US are all national interest.

Algae Photo Bioreactors have the ability to make more renewable energy in much less time with on demand production capabilities, often multiple products can be produced from a single algal production plant. These modular plants can be co-located into the theater of operations for Military or Civilian commercial use. With the addition of carbon credits these systems generate multiple incomes for their owners.

Algae is a single cell organism it’s not Rocket Science (here’s the layman’s explanation on Algae)

Algae feeds on the Hydrogen from the H2O and the Carbon from the CO2 and through  the process of photosynthesis produces Hydrocarbon Chains and releases Oxygen. Most strains of the Green and Green-Blue Algae can double their mass every 24hour growing cycle. Different strains of Algae produce Algae Oil with slightly different hydrocarbon chains

Microalgae have much faster growth-rates than terrestrial crops. The per unit area yield of oil from algae is estimated to be from between 2,000 to 20,000 gallons per acre, per year(4.6 to 18.4 l/m2 per year); this is 7 to 30 times greater than the next best crop, Chinese tallow (699 gallons).

Studies show that algae can produce up to 60% of their biomass in the form of oil. Because the cells grow in aqueous suspension where they have more efficient access to water, CO2 and dissolved nutrients, microalgae are capable of producing large amounts of biomass and usable oil in either high rate algal ponds or photo bioreactors. This oil can then be turned into biodiesel which could be sold for use in automobiles.  The biomass (algae cake) can be used for biogas production into methane to generate electricity. The more efficient this process becomes the larger the profit that is turned by the company. Regional production of microalgae and processing into biofuels will provide economic benefits to rural communities.

Biobutanol

Butanol can be made from algae using only a solar powered biorefinery. This fuel has an energy density similar to gasoline, and greater than that of either ethanol or methanol. In most gasoline engines, butanol can be used in place of gasoline with no modifications. In several tests, butanol consumption is similar to that of gasoline, and when blended with gasoline, provides better performance and corrosion resistance than that of ethanol.

The green waste left over from the algae oil extraction can be used to produce butanol.

Biogasoline

Jet Fuel  is being made from algae oil currently.

“Flare Test”-Establish that fuel combusts, not explodes.

“Can Combustor Test”-Fuel is compatible with basic jet technology.

Algae seems to hold the most promise to meet many needs to include methane gas production for electricity.

Algae Desirable Characteristics:

•             Easy to grow

•             Grow anywhere

•             High yield per acre

•             Not used for Human or Animal Consumption

•             Environmentally friendly

Algae remove massive amounts of CO2 (Carbon dioxide) from the air. Algae farms are glutton eaters of CO2 gas providing a means for recycling waste carbon dioxide from fossil fuel combustion. It is possible to sequester as much as one billion tons of CO2 per year from algae farms. The United States has one energy plant that produces 25.3 million tons of CO2 by itself. This technology has attracted companies that need inexpensive CO2 sequestration solutions & renewable energy solutions. A One acre algae farm sequesters 400 metric tons of CO2 (Carbon dioxide) from the air. Algae photo bioreactors are closed systems, therefore the CO2 (Carbon dioxide) must be forced fed to the algae.

Emulsified CO2 administration into the nutrient water source of the algae enables easy tracking of sequestered CO2 amounts/levels. PBR system use CO2 by PASSIVE (ATMOSPERIC) OR ACTIVE (EMULSIFIED) ADMINISTRATION. CO2 SOURCES SUCH AS FLUE GASSES FROM ACTIVE COAL FIRE POWER PLANTS, ASPHALT/CEMENT PLANTS OR OTHER INDUSTRIES MAKE GREAT SOURCES FOR ALGAL PRODUCTION.

Carbon credits & algae farms provide diversified income through algae co by products and active CO2 sequestration. Algae production to create methane biogas is new popular focus and a green way to create endless renewable clean electricity for many cities and industries worldwide.

Again, we recommend that you review our entire website http://www.70centsagallon.com/Algae.html if you want more information on algae focused renewable energy ownership.

Magnet Cleaner
How would a magnet effect my laptop?

my computer is shutting off without warning. I have done proper power, battery, virus scans, cleaning of keyboard, etc. but yet it still powers off after about three minutes. I noticed that I was wearing a magnetic bracelet, could that effect anything? I am freaked out.

For the most part it won’t. Hard Drives are virtually immune to magnetism from all but the strongest magnets.

While we used to all walk around paranoid a small magnet would destroy the floppy with our term papers these days short of setting your laptop on the Bulk Demagnatizer that is used to deactivate the security tags on DVDs in the best buy, you would have a hard time finding a magnet that would damage your laptop.

Long exposure to a magnet could damage fans in your laptop, but the speakers in your laptop have failrly strong magnets in them and they are not a problem.

I would guess you have a problem with your power supply, or your laptop battery. This would be more likely if the laptop just Shuts off with no warning, rather than says “battery low” and hibernates.

If you are getting crashes that say “writing error to disk” or something about System Dump then more likely your memory is faulty.

Don’t worry it is not your bracelet.

Green Pond Water: The Way Nature Is

When you look down into your pond and see green pond water, chances are, you get a pretty bad look on your face. No one wants to see green water, especially after they have spent so long working on it. What you are dealing with is pong algae. Believe it or not, this is pretty simple to control. If you have KOI, then you will need to have a good filtration system, which will help control that algae. If you have goldfish and you feed them, then you will need to have filtration, but you will be able to control algae. However, if you do not feed those goldfish and you balance your bond, you will find that algae does not grow so much.

Do you know what happens when the sun hits the water? Algae will start to grow. This is how nature works. In order to get past that cycle, there are some things you can do in order to keep it clean and healthy looking.

It is important that you ecologically balance your pond. Use bog plants, such as umbrella plants or irises. You will need to have oxygenators or some submerged plants. The best would be to have cabomba followed by anacharis and dhornwort. For every square foot of pond surface, you should have one batch of the plants submerged. You can purchase the plants with rubber bands that hold them together.

Before you place your plants in the pond, you will need to take the rubber band off. If you do not want the plants freely floating around, then you could put them in pots that sit on the bottom of the pond. The plants that are under the water will be fertilized by the fish waste. The fist will eat the submerged plants, but that is fine, because they grow faster than they can eat them.

We believe this is a pretty good cycle as nature will be caring for itself. Take note that if you have too many fish, they may eat all of the submerged plants. This is great for those individuals that do not feed their fish.

When it comes to algae slime on the sides of the pond, you may not believe it, but this is actually a good thing. Do you know what this means? This means that you have a healthy pond. If you feed your fish, then the simple methods of keeping the pond clear is not going to work. You are going to need a filter.

You should cover half of the top part of the pond with plants that float. This includes plants such as Parrots feather, water hyacinths, water lilies and water lettuce. If you live in the tropical area, then you may want to have some tropical water lilies. However, you will either need to sacrifice them during the winter or store them in warm weather until spring comes back around.

If one day you look down and see green pond water, that does not mean that it is always going to be like that. It just needs a helping hand.

Macro Algae

Ireland Recuperation and Healing

Now that Brian Cowen of Fianna Fail has approved the election in March 2011 Ireland has an opportunity not to live with an open wound any more. Yes, there is a humungous amount of anger but it shall not serve us to allow that anger to go out of control like a brush fire. ‘Deliver me Lord from lying lips and deceitful tongues.’ Psalm 120(119):2.

It is now time for Ireland to grow and put the damage behind by listening to the prescription of achievements already under our belt and how we may expand on them to achieve even more abundant glories. We have been whipped and down trodden before and we have always triumphed thus all this recent history just means we were caught napping and trusted the wrong people.

Now that we are aware of how not to do things let us listen to people like Paul Sommerville and others like him awaiting in the wings for their voices to be heard.  For us though we have to make political Ireland bigger than the noise of previous governments. We have to listen to our global partners and find out what works and what is needed then we go ahead and build accordingly.

Of the numerous unemployed skilled workers lining the queues, we have to figure out a way to navigate their expertise into other spheres, and while the transition may not be immediate, it shall assure longevity of employment. When small farming was no longer viable for many families to survive on, people diversified. When cottage industries had to close, we diversified and now we shall diversify again. We have a brilliant export market to sustain us and build upon so come now let us wear our thinking hats and commence creating.

Alternative energy is one area where we may reap the rewards of employment that is required for our hungry workforce and it means we have to be open to the myriad avenues encompassed within the alternative energy genre. We have an excellent climate for algae production and through decades of research already accomplished, we do not have to start from scratch.

With oil prices rising like a tsunami it shall behoove us to investigate the full throttle of possibilities of alternative fuels because gasoline or diesel at €1.38 per litre is unsustainable in any economic climate. We have the potential to produce fuel at less than €1/gallon if we hop aboard the alt-fuel train right now. This is not a pipe dream it is based on sound research of tried proved and tested methods, it does work.

We necessitate independence from the oil producing countries and with algae production we may attain that freedom. Not only that, but we have the benefit of sister industries similar to the spectrum of possibilities that traditional oil enjoyed. Electric cars are fine and dandy for small journeys and with the ready availability of petrol and diesel from algae, we need not be overly concerned about losing the automobiles and other automotive industries that comprise our current economy.

We know because of technology the global wind market is set to propel by 155% to 2012 but the magic of wind will not save the millions of jobs that depend on oil derivatives. One cannot hold energy in ones hands and say well now let me think what can I make today from your resourcefulness?

Hmmm the answer would be nothing and so in order to prevent mass unemployment and a worse depression than we have ever known we need an alternative. Thus to debate the inconsistencies of alternative energy without offering a clearer solution would be a superfluous waste of time and so it shall benefit us to investigate the successes others are reaping from algae.

Under optimum growing conditions, macro and micro-algae are reported to produce over 165,243/litres/hectare/year on non-competing agricultural land. If you scale that to the demands of Ireland it would equal total freedom from fossil fuels while contributing to employment on a grand scale.

Healing of societal woes shall be commensurate with the confidence our government induces within the population thus if employment through alternative industries is enthusiastically embraced the healing process will be sooner rather than later. Let us pray that divine providence shall guide our electorate who has received sustenance through enlightened canvassing. Let the prayers continue with the process by electing those officials who showed the most promise. God bless!

Aquarium Algae
How do I controll brown algae in my aquarium?

I have a 40 gal tropical fresh water aquarium, and it keeps getting brown algae on the rocks and on the glass. I run the lights about 12 hrs a day, keep the water at 76 degrees, and have no live plants. I keep about 12 quarter sized angel fish . I do partial water changes and clean the rocks and glass weekly. I would like to keep from adding extra chemicals. any suggestions please?

Your problem is light. Brown algae grows when there is light that’s either low intensity, or lower on the color spectrum.

If you have no live plants, reduce the hours of lighting the tank receives per day.

Keep in mind, brown algae is harmless to fish. Some fish even eat the stuff. There is no need to add chemicals to get rid of it as it’s really not dangerous to the fish. Reducing the amount of lighting your tank receives will reduce the amount of brown algae that grows.

Algae Fix

What Causes Pond Algae and How to Control it

The two most common forms of algae that ponds experience are planktonic algae and filamentous algae. Planktonic algae is the type that gives pond that distinctive pea green, soupy color. Planktonic algae in moderation is very important as is the base of the food chain in a pond. However, it is when it is in excess that you get the green water.

Filamentous algae is what you typically see growing on rocks and floating on the surface in mats. It is the stringy, hairlike algae that you often see in the spring and summer months. It has little redeeming value.

Algae in moderation is good for a pond, but when it becomes over abundant, it can cause severe water quality problems. Algae consumes oxygen at night to continue its life cycle, so when there is a severe outbreak, large amounts of oxygen are consumed and can seriously deplete the dissolved oxygen level in a pond to a point that cause fish kills. Not to mention that fact this its flat out unsightly.

Algae blooms are caused by three factors: excess nutrients, too much sunlight and low oxygen levels.

Nutrients come from a variety of sources, most notable fish and animal waste, fish food and dead/decaying vegetation. Other sources would include fertilizer run-off and run-off from nearby farms and pastures. All of these sources provide much needed nitrogen and phosphorus that algae need to bloom and grow.

Ponds that sit in direct sunlight or have very few aquatic plants are also at risk of suffering from algae problems. This is why generally the most and worst algae problems occur in the summer when the days are longest.

Finally, ponds that experience poor oxygen levels will also suffer from algae control issues. When there are high levels of waste in ponds that are stagnant and still, oxygen levels can be depleted due to the amount of oxygen needed to break down the waste. Algae blooms come and go, but when there is little dissolved oxygen in the water, dying algae will feed new cycles of living algae because there is not enough oxygen to break down the dead vegetation before it can fuel more growth.

First of all, algae should not be looked upon as a problem. It is merely a symptom and a sign that there are other problems and that your pond is out of balance. What it means is that one or more of the causes above are the true problems.

A short term, quick fix is to use an algaecide. However this is just a short term solution because when you simply kill the algae and leave it to degrade on its own, it will just fuel re-growth. A quick kill can also cause an oxygen depletion, which can stress or even kill fish.

The ideal approach for using an algaecide for quick algae control would be to use the algaecide as a pre-cursor to the long-term approach discussed below.

A more sound and lasting approach would be to control the causes of the algae growth – nutrients, sunlight and oxygen.

Nutrient control involves limiting the amount of nutrients that enter that water that can feed algae. This can range from manually skimming debris and waste from the pond, physically removing the algae, installing an effective filtration system or limiting the number of aquatic inhabitants, but it should always involve the use of beneficial pond bacteria. Pond bacteria is crucial in breaking down and degrading all types of organic waste and should be used regularly.

Reducing sunlight penetration is a more difficult because you only have so much control over that, but a good pond dye and even the addition of aquatic plants can help to shade the water and limit the sun’s effect. A good rule of thumb would be 60%-70% coverage with plants.

Improving the oxygen levels in a pond can be done with a pond aerator or even a pond fountain. The infusion of oxygen will invigorate pond bacteria, making them more efficient at their job, while also keeping the pond water circulating (another deterrent to algae growth).

Effective algae control begins with knowledge and understanding of the type of algae you have and what causes the algae to grow. Once you have armed yourself with the proper information, treating the causes and controlling the sources become more manageable. Then, year after year, preventative maintenance becomes second nature and severe algae blooms become less and less of a concern.
