My Elite Aqua Fizzzz 30CM Air Stone Is not functioning properly and only half of it is blowing out ‘Air Bubbles/Fizz’ and I wondered why? It is brand new so its not blocked or anything and I wondered Do these Air Stones Over time gradually let out more fizz/bubbles?? There is also nothing wrong with my Air Pump.

Air stones only releasing air at partial capacity is quite normal, yes even for new ones. There are several main reasons for this and ways the can be fixed.
1.Air stone is not broke in- as odd as it sounds many air stones need to be broke in. Sometimes it can take 48 hours to brake in a new air stone, or an old one that hasn’t been used in a while for that matter.
2.Air stone is plugged- you can usually fix this problem by simply blowing through entrance end of the hose as hard as possible, doing this will hopefully open plugged holes.(If a visible film is present scrub it of.)
3.Air pump is two small- many times when a air stone only partially bubbles is because your air stone is to large for your size pump. You may want to try getting a smaller air stone or larger pump.(I would recommend trying reasons one and two first.

Nuisance algae is a problem many reef aquarists encounter. This article will point you in the right direction and more than likely by taking appropriate action to one or more of these solutions, your algae will disappear and never return. There are three main reasons for hair algae, these are listed in order of most probable cause.
Phosphates.
This is at large the biggest cause of hair algae. The trouble with phosphates is that most aquarists check the parameter but because most test kits available are inaccurate they get false readings. Giving the impression that phosphates are at an acceptable level. The most reliable test kits to date are the Deltec phosphate test kit, but this is very expensive. The solution is very easy to solve. Use a phosphate adsorbing media such as rowaphos in direct flow in the aquarium. Using a inexpensive phosphate reactor for the media is much more effective and comes highly recommended. Either way ensure you change media every four to six weeks.
Water Movement.
Water movement or circulation is very important, if not enough flow is available you will get “dead spots”. Areas that have no circulation. Here is where detritus builds up causing high nitrates and phosphates, This is where your algae problem will start to grow and spread. The solution is either upgrade a current power-head or add additional movement through a second power-head.
Lighting duration.
You will probably over look this since many corals need light to survive. But too long lighting duration and/or placement of aquarium near a window in the days sun will cause growth of algae. If you have no problems with phosphates or water movement i would recommend reducing lighting cycle and/or move aquarium, close a curtain to block sunlight during the day to see if algae growth reduces if an aquarium move is a massive task.

After installing my reverse osmosis water filter the water seem to have alot of little bubble or things floating in it. I double check all the connection and everything seem to be correct. I also check the filtered water with a TDS tester and the result is 16 which is surpose to be good enough to drink. If anyone have any clue or experience this before, please let me know. The Importance of Proper Water Quality in Aquariums
Nothing is more important in aquarium keeping than water quality management. There are many excellent products available out there to assist in water quality management, but in my opinion, there is still no replacement for water changes, good filtration, and good feeding habits.
Water Changes; changing water in more frequent, smaller amounts is preferable to larger less frequent changes. Make sure the water going in has the right chemistry (PH, ect.) and temperature. I like to use reverse osmosis water, then add the elements I need back in (especially for saltwater or soft water aquariums such as discus). Well or spring water is also usually excellent. Otherwise use a de-chlorinator (sodium thiosulfate), if chlorine or chloramines are present (Wonder shells remove chlorine, stabilize KH, and add electrolytes). Water changes are important for Nitrate removal and buildup of toxic organic and inorganic material.
Good filtration consists of biological, chemical, mechanical, and germicidal.
-Biological: Sponge Filters are excellent bio filters (generally used in smaller aquariums, but there are larger ones now available, as well a sponge pre-filters for intakes of other filters, such as canister and HOB filters), wet/dry on a larger scale, fluidized bed, and under gravel filters (Your canister filter, power filter, ect also can be biological filters- just make sure to not change all media during cleanings. You want to wash some of the media out in used aquarium water. Ceramic bio rings are excellent in canister filters for bio filtration). Live rock in marine aquariums also acts as bio filters. Biological filtration removes ammonia and nitrite from your water (anaerobic bacterial can remove nitrates in limited quantities in saltwater). -Chemical filtration is achieved by carbon, zeolite (freshwater only for zeolite), and many other inorganic filter media such as resins.
-Mechanical filtration is the removal of debris from the aquarium via filter floss, cartridges, ECT. Canister filters excel at mechanical filtration. HOB (Hang on the back- power filters) are also reasonable mechanical filters (The Aqua Clears are not very good mechanical filters, but generally good bio-filters)
-Germicidal filtration is the use of uvc radiation or ozone to kill disease pathogens in the water. I highly recommend UV sterilization in ANY aquarium, especially fish tanks with high disease risk rates for disease such as goldfish or discus.
Good feeding habits simply means feeding what the fish will consume in 2-3 minutes (very general rule), twice per day. Also using a quality food that is highly digestible is very important for less waste (Spirulina 20 flake, HBH, Omega, Sanyu, Hikari, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent, TetraMin in my opinion has too much cereal and indigestible amino acids). Most fish foods available have too high of a cereal content and not enough fats and fish proteins.

Anyone into hydroponics using an aquarium with fish feces for fertilizer?
I have a 300 gallon aquarium in my greenhouse with trout and perch in it, and hydroponics shelves above it. The shelves are watered by pumping water from the aquarium to the top shelf, and it drains through the shelves back to the aquarium, and the plants in the shelves use the fish waste as fertilizer and this cleans the water. What plants will be good in the shelves to best filter the water?

On this model you need to remove the motor assembly and remove the three screws holding the pump to the assembly. The three screws have a torx head so you will need the torx tool to remove the screws.

I’m having my first (and only) colonoscopy. I had rectal bleeding once in July and once in October this year.
But I plan on NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, ever getting another colonoscopy again in my natural lifetime.

I dread the thought of that colonoscopy too… having a stranger stick a camera up your rear end. Not fun. But colon cancer is even less fun. My brother-in-law just lost his young sister to colon cancer. It’s worth getting checked out and nipping things early. She had no clue until it was too late.

There is a scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” near the start of the movie, where Tippy Hedren is speeding her sports car through the rolling green countryside. Suddenly the camera pulls back to show a bay and seaside village that are so pristine and picturesque they would do justice to any fine painting.
The movie then proceeds to allow thousands of birds to terrorize this idyllic little place and run Tippy and boyfriend Rod Taylor completely out of town. Fortunately, it was all just a movie and we’re happy to report that the movie’s little village – Bodega Bay – has survived to become an even more popular getaway than it was before Hitchcock chose it for his movie.
In fact, birds are big business in Bodega. You can’t cross the street without some reminder that the movie was filmed there. The Tides Restaurant – featured prominently in the movie – now has a gift shop that has become a near-museum with its shelves and shelves of stuffed birds, Hitchcock posters, location photos and just about any kind of clothing you want emblazoned with some variation of Bodega Bay or “The Birds.” Of course, no matter that the “real” restaurant burned down long ago and the replacement buildings bear no resemblance to those used in the movie.
What does remain is the same sleepy seaside village that appeared in the movie. While there certainly have been many new buildings added since the movie’s release in 1963, the town retains the same character so evident in the movie.
Our suggestion would be to rent “The Birds” before taking your trip to Bodega Bay. It will be fun comparing the many locations in the movie with how they look now, 40 years later, and the movie will also give you a good idea of what to expect when you get there – as long as you disregard the birds.
You might also disregard a few geographic inconsistencies. For example, one of the most memorable scenes from the movie is when the birds attack the children at the country school and the kids try an orderly retreat from the school only to be forced running and screaming down to the waterfront. In the town of Bodega, you can visit Potter School which you’ll remember from the movie.
Another great place to match scenery with the movie is to take Bay Hill Road from the village area a little more than a mile up into the rolling hills above Bodega Bay. Soon you’ll be able to look back at Bodega and see exactly the same “establishing shot” of the bay that Hitchcock used in those early scenes of the movie.
Back down at the Tides Restaurant, there still is a bit of the waterfront flavor seen in the movie. Fishing trawlers bring their fresh catch to a seafood company on the dock, and there are always plenty of barking sea lions hoping to dine on leftovers. In the movie, Tippy rented a small motorboat at this dock before motoring across the bay to her new boyfriend’s house.
Now for those who could care less about movie-making, Bodega Bay was an established getaway long before “The Birds” came out. The countryside along this scenic stretch of the California Coast is like an ocean-lover’s paradise. It also helps that the area is relatively easy to get to from the San Francisco Bay area – less than two hours from almost any Bay area location, most of that by freeway.
We stayed the night at the Bodega Bay Lodge and Spa, the area’s only four-diamond resort. The property is located on the Bodega Bay’s southeastern shore and it provides a big area for you to go exploring the bay. The sights, sounds and smells of the bay are right there – most notably the foghorns heard faintly in the distance, guiding ships away from the hazardous coastline.
The lodge is spread out in a series of buildings that have been updated with Cape Cod styling. Our tastefully appointed suite was like a high-end studio apartment with a complete living room area adjacent to the bed and a small desk arrangement. Of special note was the oversize Jacuzzi tub, which got some good use during our stay. At the other end of the unit, sliding glass doors opened out to the bayshore, and a patio offered a relaxing place to observe the surroundings.
The Bodega Bay Lodge also features a resort-style ocean-view pool and large hot tub, which seemed quite popular with a group of business people who were staying at the lodge as part of a corporate retreat. Then of course we must not forget the spa – not on our list of activities, but popular with guests who come to Bodega Bay for rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.
Bodoga Bay offers trails to help guide you to beaches such as Shorttail Gulch Beach. The trail to Shorttail is fairly new and allows access to a beach that was previously difficult to reach. There is a whole network of such trails in the area, making for endless hours of exploration and discovery.
If you’re up for a short drive, the coastline near Bodega offers many spectacular seaside viewpoints as well as beaches to explore. Driving this part of Highway 1, it seems that just about every bend in the road reveals another picture-perfect view of the rocky shoreline, spectacular bluffs or Robinson Crusoe beaches.
Just south of Bodega Bay you’ll find Tomales Bay, a popular destination for kayakers and others who want to enjoy upclose-and-personal contact with the area’s marine life. At the Bodega Marine Laboratory, each Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. you can explore a number of aquarium displays featuring colorful local fish, a kelp forest and other marine life.
Hitchcock really was looking for great scenery rather than the birds he ultimately added to the movie through special effects and mechanical devices. But, ironically, Bodega Bay is known as a “hot spot” on the Northern Coast for finding rare birds. More rare birds have been spotted in Bodega than any other place in Sonoma County – and, fortunately, not one of them has instigated an attack on the thousands of tourists brought to this area each year by “The Birds.”

You put the ‘fat end’ in the water, and pump it up and down until the water reaches the end of the tube (which should be in a bucket). If you keep tilting the tube so that the water goes up straight with no air bubbles, you should achieve a suction effect where the water flows freely up the tube into the bucket, and you can concentrate on cleaning the gravel.

The length of the clown fish can extend up to 13 inches, about the length of a ruler, if they have a large area to thrive in and plenty of mollusks, crustaceans and algae to feed on.
Sand tiger shark looks very ferocious and dangerous, it is true. The length of these sharks can be up to 3 meters which is nearly the height of two tall adult men. They naturally feed during the night time.
Adult green turtle usually rely on jelly fish and very small fishes when they are young and as they grow up they will completely turn up in to herbivorous and have sea grasses.
Octopi, the name for more than one octopus, have blue blood and 3 hearts so they are very unusual. They can also completely change the color of their skin. Female octopus usually travel around 1000 kms just to lay the eggs in the same ocean where they were given birth to which makes for a remarkable tale of motherly instinct.
Then we have sea horses which look very beautiful and a bit like little horses facially which is probably where they get their name from.
